Heart In A Box - UCTV Prime Cuts

4/24/2012; 6 minutes

A breathtaking story showing a human heart being kept warm and beating as it is transported from a donor to a patient in a study led by the Heart Transplant Program at UCLA. The heart is moved in an experimental device that allows it to function while in transit, potentially improving the success rate of surgical transplantations. Two patients are featured here, each beneficiaries of this promising new technology. (#23715)
