Live Donor Liver Transplant 2011 - Risks and Benefits

In the United States, there are over 17,000 patients on the liver waiting list, but only enough donated livers to perform about 5,000 transplants per year. As a result, more than 1,700 patients die each year while on liver waiting lists. Technological advances -- along with the liver's unique ability to regenerate itself - allow transplant surgeons to perform living donor liver transplants. Dr. John Roberts discusses the risks and the benefits of living donor liver transplant. (#23243)
