Rethinking Black Studies for the 21st Century

3/7/2014; 14 minutes

This multi-divisional collaboration initiates an ongoing consideration of the significance, direction, and potential of Black Studies at a transformative moment in California, the US, and globally. Our goal is twofold: 1) create innovative frameworks and methods for the study of Blackness in a global context that understand Black Studies as integral to and inseparable from gender and sexuality studies, transnational and hemispheric studies, and the study of changing social movements; and 2) increase collaborative work by building networks for intellectual exchange among scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences working in critical emergent areas of African American and African Diaspora studies nation.
