Separating Church & State: The Mt. Soledad Cross Debate

7/3/2006; 59 minutes

UCSD students, under the guidance of Communication Professor Ariana Hernandez-Reguant, consider whether the cross that marks the Mt. Soledad National War Memorial in La Jolla violates the constitutionally mandated separation of church and state. Students hear arguments from critic and civil liberties attorney Jim McElroy and cross advocate Teresa Mendoza, an attorney working with the Thomas More Law Center, a public interest law firm dedicated to protecting Christian rights and freedoms.
